CRUNCH 2022-2023: STRIVE FOR 5!!

 



                  This weekend the Cleveland Crunch will open up their 2022-23 campaign with a slew of new changes, and some familiar faces. For starters, the Crunch are in a new league. Major League Indoor Soccer will be the new home for the Crunch and several other teams. Chicago, Cincinnati, Brew City(Milwaukee), and Omaha join the Crunch as core teams While Detroit, Grand Rapids, Rockford, Austin, Houston, Springfield, and Wichita are the new teams joining the MLIS. The Crunch will also be in the eastern division of MLIS which will consist of the Detroit Waza Flo, Grand Rapids( Rapid City Fc), Cincinnati Swerve, and Cleveland Crunch. The Crunch will look to continue their dominance and look for a fifth league championship and their second title in three years.


 Another new change is at the helm as former Crunch/ force legend Benny Dargle is now the new Crunch head coach. Coach Dargle takes over after Lou Castelic led the Crunch to an astounding 19-3 regular season record and 3-1 in the playoffs including one league championship (MASL 2, 2021) and a League runner up (MASL 2, 2021-2022). The Core Crunch fan favorites such as Mike Derezic, Marijo Musa, Gabe Pewu, Sammy Mutemwa, and Macain Spragling will be returning, but when asked about the how he feels about the team and
season coach Dargle had this to say.


      " I'm excited about the season. I don't plan on changing anything with the ship, just make sure it stays the course and we continue to do what we've been doing which is winning. I love what the front office has done and I love the teams chemistry. Hopefully we can bring another title back to Cleveland. We are determined to get better and be a force in the world of professional arena soccer."


The Crunch will open up their season this Saturday night against in-state rival Cincinnati Swerve in the "Battle of I-71" as both teams are only separated by a 4hr drive down interstate 71. The Crunch are 4-0 all-time against the Swerve and average 14.7 goals a game against the Swerve. We as the 216 Sports Network will be in attendance covering this game and will have a more in-depth preview later this week.

A SPECIAL TIME!!! 2021 PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME RECAP!!

  ~Canton, Ohio~   If you would have told me ten years ago that I would have been sitting in the press box at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium covering the 2021 Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony, I would have told you " you're crazy"! Fast forward to 2021 our company the 216 Sports Network was approved for media credentials to cover the induction ceremony. To say we were overjoyed is an understatement. I have lived in Cleveland, Ohio all my life. Never had I been inside the stadium, but Sunday night I took it all in as I arrived at the hall of fame. SEMIS!! CRUNCH LOOKING TO MAKE IT 5!!

     This weekend the Crunch will be looking to make a run for their 5th championship. Standing in their way in the semi-final round is a familiar opponent, the Omaha Kings. To be fair to the Kings, this is not the same team the Crunch have faced in the past. This team is loaded and looking good. Mind you, the Kings are on that short list of teams that have played the Crunch exceptionally tough since their return in 2021. This season, the MLIS Semi-finals and finals will be in Chicago, and rightfully the top 4 teams in the league are there. Omaha, Houston, Grand Rapids, and Cleveland all punched their tickets to the windy City. To get a better perspective on this weekend's match-up with Omaha, let's get more in-depth.
