STARTING OFF STRONG, CRUNCH WIN REGULAR SEASON OPENER!!
Ft. Wayne, Indiana
The 2025 Major League Indoor Soccer has started off more or less the same for the Cleveland Crunch. In winning fashion. This past Saturday the Crunch opened up their regular season on the road against the expansion Summit City United out of Indiana. Unfortunately for the United it was a bad introduction into the MLIS having to face the defending champs.
The entire night showed why the Crunch were and are the most dominant professional indoor soccer team in the country over the last 4 seasons. For those not in the know, The Crunch have won 2 league titles in four years since their return in 2021. Not only that, the Crunch have also arguably the best total team and coach in the country. How do I know this? Simple, Saturday night The Crunch had their foot on the gas and never let up.
"Man of the Match" Admir Suljevic scored 5 goals, four of them in back-to-back quarters. Cancar, Csiszar, Wolanski, and Najar all joined in on the fun to make it 8-0 at the half. In the second half it as more of the same as "The Captain" Dave Jordan, "Big Mac" Spragling, Najar, Minick, and even the Head man himself Coach Antonio Manfut all got in on the fun to put the game out of reach. Yes, the United did score a goal towards the end of the game to make it 16-1, But trust me when I tell you that the United had to work to earn that one. The Crunch defense was smothering the United players all night.
With that being said, the Crunch move on to this weekend as this will be a special home opener for the Crunch. The Lansing Red Cedar will be coming into the Soccer plex, A place where opposing teams have had a lot of trouble not only trying to play and communicate but also win. since 2021 the Crunch have 27 home wins including the playoffs. Thats nothing to sneeze at, and the Crunch fans have made it difficult for opposing teams to get any kind of momentum in the Soccer plex. This will be the first ever meeting between the expansion Red Cedar and the Crunch. This will be a tough task for Lansing as this is their season opener and they face the Crunch who already own the best goal differential in the league (+15) and have only allowed 1 goal in the young season.
This is also Banner Night for the Crunch as they will be honoring last season's championship team. The 2024 Crunch added a fifth star to the team crest representing their five titles in team history. Their five league titles also make them the second winningest franchise in the City of Cleveland, only 2 titles behind the Browns who have 7 league titles. Kickoff for Saturdays match is 7pm. That will follow the pre-game ceremony where the 2024 team will see their banner hung and receiver their championship rings. This will be a very special night for the Crunch and the fans so get your tickets now and we will see you at the Soccer Plex.
