IN THE BAG! CRUNCH WIN BIG!
Cincinnati, Ohio
Outside of the Cleveland Cavs, The Cleveland Crunch are the only other Cleveland team to bring a title back home within the last half decade. With the playoffs looming this looks like another title could possibly be heading back to Cleveland.
The Crunch traveled to Cincy to play the Swerve and looked to go up 3-0 in the season series. Sunday afternoon the Crunch left no doubt that the road to the championship goes through "The Land"!
As you can see by the graphics posted this game was a massacre so the details will be spared and get into the important things. With this win, the Crunch are now 11-0 with one final regular season game to go against the Swerve on March 19th here in Cleveland. What's even more important is that the Crunch now Literally have the best record and control the playoffs. Before you ask we'll explain. The Crunch winning in Cincy Sunday gave them not only the best record in all of M2 but also a first round bye in the playoffs. That means when the playoffs start in April it will be 1 vs. 2 in the west, 1 vs. 2 in the Midwest, and 2 vs. 3 in the Great lakes division. Those said winners would join the Crunch in the final four the following week. That also means that the Crunch will get to rest and possibly get back key missing players such as Tom beck.
This is no surprise as the Crunch have averaged 11.7 goals a game and sport a +78 differential. The Crunch also have scored 10+ goals in 9 of their 11 wins so far. With that being said opposing teams will have their work cut out for them and opposing goal keepers will have nightmares trying to figure out how to stop the shots on goal.
The Crunch still have one game left and we spoke with head coach Lou Kastelic on if he would rest players going into the playoffs.
"I plan to see how this week of practice goes and then I will pick the best squad like any normal week. These guys have done it the right way all year long and I believe there is plenty of time for rest once the season is over. Not to mention, there will be three weeks off between our final regular season game and the Final four playoff weekend."
If the Crunch close out the season undefeated and then have a rested team going into the playoffs this could spell trouble for the rest of the bracket. We saw what a complete and well rested Crunch team looked like last year and this years team is very much improved, especially on the defensive side.
The Crunch close out the regular season this Saturday night March 19th in the final rematch with the Swerve. It will also be fan appreciation night so if you're not there early you may miss out. The Soccerplex in North Olmstead has been literally sold out every home game this season. Tickets are on sale now at www.theclevelandcrunch.com.
