CLEAN SWEEP, STILL UNBEATEN!!
North Olmstead, Ohio
When the preview of the Crunch and Mustangs weekend series was released it was noted that this would be a hard, physical set of games for the Crunch. We all were proven right. We also knew going into the series that there was going to be some heat between both teams. This past weekend did not disappoint.
I'll save you the suspense and tell you that Saturday night the Crunch would dominate the Mustangs 15-3 in a game where a key returning player Admir Suljevic would score 4 goals and 2 assists and Crunch goal keeper Marijo Musa wouls have 8 saves and score a goal of his own. Both men would combine to share "MAN OF THE MATCH" honors.
Sunday afternoon is where things would get good. Keep in mind that there were 9 cards issued on Saturday night, and Sunday would be no different as 5 more cards were issued to gather a combined 14 issued cards in a game where there was a lot of physicality and angry heads. Never-the-less instead of literally fighting it out the Crunch would beat on the Mustangs on the scoreboard. Goals by Jordan(2), Derezic(1), Minick(1), Suljevic(3), Mutemwa(1), Wikle(2), Johnson(1), and Blackwood(1) would complete a 12-5 victory and the weekend sweep of the Mustangs.
Admir Suljevic would again get "MAN OF THE MATCH" honors for his 7 goal weekend, and after coming back from his honeymoon this was a great add-on to the celebration. We spoke with Crunch head coach Lou Kastelic for his evaluation of the weekend.
" Back-to-backs are never easy. They take a toll on the players both mentally and physically, but at the end of the day, winning makes it all worth it. We made sure we protected our house. I want to see us continue to evolve as a team. I told the guys not to settle for being good. Strive to be great. I continue to be proud of the effort we get from our young guys and of course, the veterans continue to produce. We will battle for Ohio again this coming weekend and we will need to recover quickly and be ready for a tough game against the Swerve who will no doubt be looking to try and be physical again. I think our players in these last three games have proven they are able to match other teams physicality and that we can win in multiple ways."
As stated by coach Kastelic, the Crunch will be heading 4 hours south to Cinci-tucky to play the Swerve in a 8pm prime time match-up. The Crunch won the first meeting at home 8-4 back on January 22nd. The Crunch will come into round 2 with the Swerve leading the division and a +31 goal differential. The Swerve have yet to win a game this season and will have to contend now with the best offense in the division and third best offense in all of M2. This will be the second of four meetings between the Crunch and Swerve so expect this to be the new rivalry of Ohio for a long time.
~IT'S CRUNCH TIME!!~
