THIS ONE'S PERSONAL!
Back on February 18th the Crunch suffered their worst defeat since being back in action in 2021. An 11-5 trouncing by Rapid City Fc in Michigan. This weekend the Crunch will be looking to avenge that loss and take over total control of the eastern division by the weekends end, and this game will be played in the friendly and often deafening confines of the Soccerplex.
Normally we would say "we know what you're thinking." and give some kind of speech about how the team is going to be fine and bounce back, but this week... that would be a lie. The Crunch are out for blood and whatever else they can collect from Rapid City. So much so that for two days straight we reached out to Crunch players and coach Benny Dargle and as of this writing still have not heard a response. Now most people would chalk that up to a team being focused, but if you've been in the would of sports you know the scariest thing you want to have happen is be the opposing team visiting a very focused and p***ed off team on their home field.
As mentioned earlier, the Crunch had not lost by more than 4 goals or more since their return in 2021. The Crunch have 2 losses this season and avenged one, but the thing that was common in both losses was that the calls we not even by any stretch of the imagination. both losses the Crunch were also short-handed. That's no excuse because the game still has to be played, but the calls on the field do play a part in the outcome or the change in momentum in games. You can watch any Browns game and see that for yourself.
To put into perspective how big this weekends game is. Outside of the Omaha Kings(6-0), the Crunch and Rapid City are the clear cut best teams in the league. On top of that, the winner be the top of the division, win the season series, and essentially walk away with the division crown as both Cincinnati and Detroit will not catch either team. This game also sports the top two teams with the Leagues' best goal differentials (Rapid city +34, Cleveland +33). The Crunch are also coming into this game third in the league in overall goals scored (82). Just behind Houston(87) and Springfield(86). The Crunch are also 3-0 at home this season and have made life a living nightmare for teams that come to Cleveland so don't expect that to change as Crunch fans are loud, and passionate about their team and are arguably the BEST fans in all of professional arena soccer!
Kickoff for this weekend is 7pm, but seeing how big a game this is our advice would be to get there early because you can be sure that it will be a sell out per usual. The Crunch smell blood in the water and that's a scary thing going into the last few weeks of the regular season.
