STILL ROLLIN'!!
Fairfield, Ohio
The Crunch headed south to Cincinnati to face the Swerve in another addition of "The battle of I-71". The Crunch won the first meeting in Cleveland 8-4 back on January 22nd. In that game the Crunch had to be physical and keep the Swerve at bay defensively. This game the Crunch were on the attack not only physically but offensively as well.
The first quarter was slow for both teams. Gabe Pewu would score first for the Crunch followed by a Swerve response. Then the "Captain" David Jordan would strike back for the Crunch to take a 2-1 lead after one period of play. In the Second, David Jordan would score his second goal of the night. Boban Cancar would follow that up within a matter of minutes to give the Crunch a 4-1 lead. The Swerve still fighting would put on more goal up to make it 4-2 in favor of the Crunch at the half.
The third quarter started off more of the same as Sammy Mutemwa would would use some fancy footwork and put one in the back of the net to give the Crunch a 5-2 lead. Later on in the period Hunter Johnson would put one in as the Crunch started to heat up and would lead the match 6-2 heading into the final period. The final period would see the Swerve battle back to make it a 6-3 deficit at the start of the of the fourth, but the Crunch would prove they were out for blood when Dave Jordan would shoot a missle right past the Swerve goal keeper to give the Crunch a 7-3 lead. From there it was blood in the water as Chris Cvecko would score on a Crunch attack play for a 8-3 lead. Gabe Pewu would again find the back of the net a few minutes later to put the match at 9-3. The "Captain" Dave Jordan would finish his night with his 4th goal of the night for a 10-3 lead. The night was finally capped off when Austin Horton slipped one past the Swerve goal keeper for the final goal of the night and end the match at 11-3 in favor of the Crunch. Bobi Cancar and the "Captain" Dave Jordan would both share "Men of the Match" honors.
The defense was the star of the show for the Crunch as they only allowed 3 goals and out played the Swerve on both sides of the field. Knowing how physical both teams were the refs let the game get decided by the players which was actually refreshing to see. When asked about his teams performance, Crunch head coach Lou Kastelic had this to say..
" We played together as a unit for all four quarters. We came ready to play from the moment we walked in the door until we left the arena. The guys stuck to the game plan and never deviated from it. I'm very proud of the effort and believe it was our best game thus far."
The Crunch are now 6-0 and 2-0 on the road and sit atop the Great Lakes division in M2. While the Swerve drop to 0-4 but have been playing hard all season to this point. The Crunch also Currently sport the best record in M2 as well as the best goal differential at +31 as of this writing. Next week the Crunch will be back home to host the Muskegon Risers at the Soccerplex in North Olmstead, Ohio. It will be the last home game for the Crunch until the end of the season where the will see the Swerve for the fourth and final time this season.
The Risers will be looking to avenge their two losses to the Crunch earlier this season, but don't expect it to be easy as the Crunch have been playing in sync and very physical and can score at will. The Risers will have their work cut out for them so expect the Crunch to continue to be sharks smelling blood the next time they step on the field.
~ IT'S CRUNCH TIME!!~
